The remake of 'Psycho' is very much alike the original, in fact, so like it that the same director cameo
is used by Van Sant as by Hitchcock in the original and the same faults are repeated. Myself, I am harldy
ever fond of remakes unless, as often happens, they regenerate an interest for the original film (and then
only because they do regenerate that interest).
This is in no way a bad film, but the creative aspect is lacking as it is an exact replica of the 1960
original. I feel that rarther than watching this, one should see the original. In many stores, however,
this is the only 'Psycho' available, which is a great pity.
On the technical details it could be noted that the acting pleases a little less than in the legendary
original. Hitchcock fans also miss the opportunity to sport his cameos - a sport many of his fans exercise.
The most disturbing difference, however, is that the remake is in colors whereas Hitchkocks original was
black and white. Shooting in black and white was a choice Hitchcock made - a good choice he made - and the
color remake only degrades an artistic aspect of the film.
